Renal Oxalosis in a Calf
نویسندگان
چکیده
A case of neonatal renal oxalosis in a 7-day-old calf is described. Clinical biochemistry revealed increased blood urea nitrogen. Gross findings included thin renal medulla and dilated renal calyces containing numerous, small, pale yellow and granular calculi. Histologically, most cortical and medullary tubules were dilated with birefringent crystals, whereas the glomeruli appeared unaffected. The crystals were morphologically consistent with calcium oxalate by the Pizzolato technique. Diffuse interstitial fibrosis and focal accumulations of lymphocytes were also noted.

Crystals in brain and meninges in primary hyperoxaluria and oxalosis.
A case of primary hyperoxaluria and oxalosis with chronic renal failure, crystalline myocarditis, and disseminated calcium oxalate crystal deposition in various tissues including the brain and meninges is described. Deposition of crystals in brain and meninges is exceptionally rare in primary oxalosis.

We report on a middle-aged man with end-stage renal failure apparently secondary to recurrent renal stones. He developed systemic oxalosis soon after commencing dialysis. The diagnosis of primary hyperoxaluria type 1 was supported by the finding of high dialysate glycolate excretion. The patient subsequently received an isolated cadaveric renal transplant, but the outcome was a rapid recurrence...
متن کاملOphthalmic manifestations of primary oxalosis.
The clinical and pathological findings of a 6-month-old infant with primary oxalosis, who died in renal failure, are presented. The oxalate crystalline deposition in the retinal pigment epithelium corresponded to the flecked retinopathy observed ophthalmoscopically. The difficulties in establishing a precise biochemical diagnosis are discussed and the relevant ophthalmic literature is reviewed.
متن کاملCalcium oxalate retinopathy associated with generalized oxalosis: x-ray diffraction and electron microscopic studies of crystal deposits.
This reports crystallographic and light and electron microscopic findings in a previously undescribed entity: calcium oxalate retinopathy associated with generalized oxalosis. The affected patient was a 66-year-old vohite male with a previous history of mild hypertensive renal disease who had undergone prolonged abdominal surgery under methoxyfiurane (MOF; Penthrane) anesthesia. He subsequently...
متن کاملSmall intestinal infarction: a fatal complication of systemic oxalosis.
Primary hyperoxaluria is a rare genetic disorder characterised by calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis and nephrocalcinosis leading to renal failure, often with extra-renal oxalate deposition (systemic oxalosis). Although ischaemic complications of crystal deposition in vessel walls are well recognised clinically, these usually take the form of peripheral limb or cutaneous ischaemia. This paper docu...
